The Story of Handmade: Made with Love
By MISTRY

" 'Mistry' is a last name of Parsi origin that means 'skilled artisan'. When I think of my last name, I imagine my great grandmother. I never met her, but I was told by my grandparents that she used to make diyas and matkis (pots) out of clay by hand and sit at her porch and sell those to feed her family. Her husband, my great grandfather, was a carpenter who built the beautiful doors and windows that are still at our ancestral home today. As time passed on and these crafts started to dissolve, it is very rare to see any handmade objects in my family now as many of them currently work in the field of technology. I am proud to say that through making these ghungroos, I have lived up to my identity of being a 'Mistry'. "
